For nine weeks, Early Cardiovascular Health Outreach (ECHO) distributed Echo’s Picnic Placemats—a series of educational placemats—alongside Hawaiʻi Foodbank's Kaukau 4 Keiki summer meal box program, to 4,000 keiki each week. Each box provided ingredients for 14 meals, totalling 56,000 meals weekly for the summer program.
Founder and CEO, Kimberly Uehisa, and the ECHO team collaborated closely with Laura Zysman, Director of Keiki Nutrition, to successfully launch Echo’s Picnic Placemats. They ensured the activity sheets were printed and distributed in person, while also formatting it to be included digitally in the Hawai’i Foodbank’s newsletters.

For Kimberly, seeing Hawai’i Foodbank’s CEO, Amy Millar, on-site during the final week of distribution was a meaningful full-circle moment. The two community leaders first connected at the Wahine Forum the previous year, when Kimberly had just founded ECHO. Now, they are celebrating an impactful and successful partnership between their two nonprofits!
Our placemats are perfect for establishments like kid-friendly restaurants, casual eateries, farmers markets, and grocery stores. Our youthful and inviting characters are here to spark inspiration and joy, making every meal into a memory.
